Directors & employers who haven’t yet taken steps to
protect their workforce from the danger of fire must now sit up
and take notice. The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997
as amended 1999 outlaws company directors and senior managers who
do not operate formal plans for fire safety management, threatening
offenders with imprisonment, unlimited fines and business shutdown.
Although penalties are so severe, the business community must welcome
the new legislation as long overdue. It provides greatly improved
regulation and raises the standards of fire safety at work. As a
result, directors and senior managers of companies that do not adequately
assess, manage and train to counter the risk of fire must now formalise
their safety provision without delay or face a very real threat
of prosecution. Local Fire Authorities have been empowered to make
spot checks on compliance and can hand out penalties on the spot.
To achieve compliance is now a very simple matter.
FIRE-STAT International Ltd have an extensive Corps of very experienced
Fire & Safety Consultants all of whom are former Fire Brigade
Senior Officers. FIRE-STAT International Ltd has undertaken hundreds
of Fire Risk Assessments throughout the UK and abroad, and offer
a free estimate to anyone who would like to know what the costs
would be.
